More than two decades have passed since “Blue’s Clues” first premiered. The Nickelodeon series was all about an animated pooch named Blue trying to figure out what the heck was going on in her life. Over the years, Blue has had two 3D friends (and now a new third buddy) to help her out. One was Steve, the green sweater-wearing original “Blue’s Clues” host who delighted O.G. fans. The other was Joe, the purple-sweater counterpart who replaced Steve in the show’s later years. Who was your favorite host?

Steve was the first-ever host of “Blue’s Clues." He was a pure soul with a love for striped sweaters and getting the mail, both of which actual adults typically dislike, but whatever. The weirdness mattered not: We loved Steve as much as he loved that crazy blue canine.
“Blue’s Clues” Steve was played by real-life Steve Burns, whose starring role on a children’s television show afforded him loads of cash and dates with Playboy models. For a generation of 90's kids, though, he was our friend, a kindly face that knew how to talk us through solving mysteries and forming relationships with smiling, inanimate objects.
After getting offered a "hopscotch scholarship," Steve sadly put down his Handy Dandy Notebook to move onto bigger and better things. After his departure, some jerk tried to sully his good name by claiming Burns was arrested on a drug charge. In reality, Burns left “Blue’s Clues” due to the combination of wanting to pursue a career in music, and because he was going bald. That’s right—Burns was dropping hair as fast as Blue was dropping paw prints. Unable to bear the thought of balding in front of kids, he voluntarily quit the show, even coming back for his reboot cameo wearing a fedora. We’re sure the Playboy models are still lining up, Steve.

Joe is Steve’s younger “and taller” brother, which for some reason, Fandom felt was necessary to point out. After Steve left the show (again, not because of drugs), Joe stepped in to help Blue and crew piece together all those clues.

Although Joe was bitterly received as the beloved Steve’s replacement, he was quickly accepted for being charming in his own right. He really loved squares (okay…), had a stuffed duck named Boris, and helped Blue solve things with his Thinking Chair notebook. Most importantly, he helped keep “Blue’s Clues” alive just a little longer before the show officially drew to a close in 2006.
